Hacking LG Hombot VR6360LVM

I have bought a LG Hombot VR6360LVM from Korean, and finally found time to put put a couple of perks onto this little workhorse.

 

Upgrading The Firmware

What you will need

  • FAT32 USB flash drive
  • An archive with LG Hombot Firmware, whose contents you should unpack and put on the USB drive

What you do:

  • Switch off the LG vacuum cleaner with the button on the bottom-left
  • Insert your prepared USB flash drive into the USB port
  • Switch on the vacuum cleaner by the same switch (located at bottom-left)
  • Press Start button on the top of the vacuum cleaner.  The Hombot will start and say something.
  • Wait for it to signify that it has completed the update. The Hombot will say something.

 

Enabling WIFI and WebServer

What you will need

  • FAT32 USB flash drive
  • An archive with LG WLAN + WebServer patch, whose contents you should unpack and put on the USB drive
  • Make the following changes on the file “wpa.conf”
    • Enter your WLAN access (under Windows please use the tool “Notepad ++“), then save file.

    SSID = Wireless Name
    PSK = Wireless key
    scan_ssid = 1 (only set, if your wireless is hidden)

  • If the Hombot should get a fixed IP address, then please open the Notepad ++ editor the file “wificonn.sh”, and change the line 69 as follows:
    DHCP enabled (default) line 69:

    udhcpc -i "$WIFI_DEVICE_NAME" -n -t 5 -q

      Static IP address (insert your IP address and your default gateway) line 69 & new line 70:

    Code:

    ifconfig "$WIFI_DEVICE_NAME" 192.168.1.30 up
    route add default gw 192.168.1.1

    Add Nameserver (insert your IP address) with SSH / Telnet

    echo "nameserver 192.168.1.1" > /usr/etc/resolv.conf

    Save the files.

 What you do:

  • Switch off the LG vacuum cleaner with the button on the bottom-left
  • Insert your prepared USB flash drive into the USB port
  • Switch on the vacuum cleaner by the same switch (located at bottom-left)
  • Press Start button on the top of the vacuum cleaner.  The Hombot will start and say something.
  • Wait for it to signify that it has completed the update. The Hombot will say something.
  • Turn off the HomBot and remove the USB.
  • Restart the Hombot.
  • Go to the IP address you defined, eg http://192.168.1.30:6260)

  • Turn off the HomBot and remove the USB.
  • Restart the Homebot.
